Parenting in a Media Filled World
Dealing with Mass Media Influences
Your Child and the Media

After more than 50 seminars at Churches of Christ in four years along with dozens of presentations at other organizations, my goal continues to be to give parents, grandparents and other caregivers the tools and methods with which to teach positive character development to their children and diminish the negative influence of much of today's media content.

Recently, I became convinced that the biblical foundations many young parents hold are not always strong enough in their own lives for them to to teach discernment to their children and fully understand the relevance of doing so.  So, an increased emphasis and foundation of basic morality issues was added for the 2009 seminars.

If you have considered this presentation in the past, but were concerned about the minimal level of scriptural foundations being taught,  please reconsider!  From this point forward, a look at media issues and parenting from a 'Word of God' perspective fill a significant portion of each hour as I continue to give practical tools and advice on parenting as related to media effects.

A recent reaction: "...these sessions were some of the best received we have had... His power point presentations were flawless.  His research was relevant, accurate, and completely believable.  This seminar filled an urgent need to inform parents and other caring responsible adults of the dangers threatening our children in movies, television, internet, video games, music, and even cell phones.  Most importantly, he informed us of how we can stay in control of that to which our children are exposed..."

A RELEVANT REFERENCE LETTER

These presentations are a personal ministry of Delton McGuire.  Offered in whatever format church leaders feel is best for their congregation, the most successful has been the "Sunday-all day' format.  In this format, foundational material is reviewed during the bible class period followed by a sermon dealing with character development sources and media violence.  In one or two afternoon or evening sessions other media sources are critiqued such as specific TV programs, video games, the internet, popular music, cell phones, and social networking.

No speaker fee is requested.  My only monetary desire is to cover actual travel expenses.

If you are concerned about the character diminishing effects of today's media on the children for whom you care, or your child or grandchild, you should be interested in this presentation.  The current situation regarding mass media influences is reviewed and practical and realistic methods to minimize damage to our children's character are discussed.

Other churches, faith-based organizations, child-care agencies, and educational or parent groups are encouraged to offer this program to their members or staff.  I will make every effort to make the material relevant and applicable to your group.  Please call me to discuss this option!
